Jana Rothbauer became a certified lymphedema specialist in 2012.
“When my kids were in grade school, I decided to get lymphedema certified to have something to be ready to focus on when they left home. I received my training from the Vodder School, and earned my Lymphedema Association of North America certification.
Fast forward to 2021, I find myself always using my training to help others in the acute hospital setting. Since becoming certified, I have worked in both inpatient and outpatient settings, addressing head and neck lymphedema, post-mastectomy lymphedema, venous insufficiency, and various other conditions. In 2015 I published an article in the Journal of Lymphology after learning about girls and women with Turner Syndrome at their national conference in 2013. I have learned to create custom facial compression garments with my handy sewing machine out of short stretch bandages and have been successful in tongue lymphedema and head and neck cancer lymphedema.
In 2016, I was honored to present my findings on Turner Syndrome and Lymphedema to the National Lymphedema Network National Conference. I was also honored to publish a case study and present its findings on a complex case of tongue lymphedema at the 2021 national conference.
The benefit of working as a private practitioner is the opportunity to offer customized treatment that is best for the patient in regard to scheduling, instead of the typical big-box therapy setting where compression wrappings are applied less frequently than what is optimal for rapid reduction.
Treating lymphedema requires compassion, knowledge, and patiences, but is rewarding to help patients reach a better level of health and comfort.”
